Woodlands Play Therapy

Children engaging in group therapy can benefit from having the overall support of their peers. It is also a lovely way for children to realise that they are not the only ones feeling a certain way, experiencing a particular challenge or going through a specific experience.

Woodlands Play Therapy offer group therapy sessions for children to explore emotions, build social skills, boost confidence and resilience levels. Group play therapy sessions are run several times per year, with each group being tailored to suit members needs and goals. Play therapy groups are small, with no more than 4-6 children of similar ages/ stages of development, sharing similar experiences or having similar goals.

Children will engage in a range of play based activities, allowing them to learn from each other, express their feelings, develop empathy and communication skills. The therapy groups also help to build a sense of belonging and friendship, which can be very empowering and the first step towards healing.

For more complex referral issues or concerns, individual play therapy is recommended rather than group therapy.interactions with the play therapist, children also learn to express emotions, build confidence and resilience, and to develop healthy coping mechanisms.

As play therapy sessions progress, the therapist gains insight to the childs inner world, allowing them to take a holistic approach tailored to suit the needs of each child, and to guide them on their journey of promoting emotional growth and well – being, and helping them to reach their full potential.
